April 7, 2009
It is with a heavy heart I announce to you that Casa Amiga will be closing its doors on April 15, 2009. Funding prospects did not come through and any potential opportunity to be “taken over” by a local non-profit has not happened soon enough. Maria and I are currently beginning action steps to close Casa Amiga. Maria and Giovanna may be volunteering for a short time after April 15th, if necessary, to make this transition an easy and informative one for the local migrant workers and Latino population.
Casa Amiga made great strides and brought diversity and inclusion to the forefront of the Tecumseh YMCA and our community. Maria Messer, her staff, interns and volunteers have done an outstanding job! I certainly wish her, Giovanna and her colleagues the best in the days to come. Casa Amiga has brought together people of every age, ethnicities and faith in places and programs that encouraged them to support each other in building healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. Over the years, much time and effort was devoted to acquiring and aligning the resources necessary to achieve our ambitious programmatic goals and objectives. Those resources are many of you, whom I most graciously thank and appreciate for all you have done to make Casa Amiga the successful program it was.
Though hard to let go of, I know in my heart that our Casa Amiga program touched and changed the lives of many individuals, young and old, throughout Clark County. In closing, I am most encouraged in knowing it was a job well done! Thanks to all of you!
With best regards,
